More breakthroughs needed to promote socio-economic growth
During his recent interview with reporter Duyen Anh from DA NANG Newspaper, the Da Nang People’s Committee Chairman, Mr Huynh Duc Tho, expressed his happiness with his city’s final ranking in Viet Nam’s Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) for 2015, the third consecutive year that the city has come out top. He remarked that the city scored 68.34 points, nearly 2 points higher than the 2014 score of 66.87.

Chairman Tho said, “Last year, Da Nang identified a weakness in its index for support activities for businesses.
Therefore, the city authorities made every effort to improve on this aspect. In particular, leaders at municipal and grass-root levels have been willing to spend time meeting citizens to address any pressing issues.
Some of the leaders have widely publicised their email addresses in the mass media. Also, the Facebook page of the city’s Urban Management Division at https://www.facebook.com/groups/dothidanang/?fref=ts has been created to receive opinions and address any pressing problems reported by residents and businesses.”
The city leader noted that despite its top PCI position, Da Nang is still facing difficulties in attracting domestic and foreign investment, especially for foreign direct investment (FDI) projects.
The main reasons are thought to be that the climatic conditions, transport infrastructure, and investment markets in Da Nang and other central regional localities are not as favourable as those in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City.”
He said, “The local authorities are doing their utmost to deal with these problems by focussing on speeding up administrative reforms, perfecting the transport infrastructure, and promoting the development of support industries”.
