The project comprises 3 main sections: the international passenger terminal itself, an overpass in front of the terminal, and a new parking area.
According to the International Airport Investment and Exploitation Company, as of the middle of this month, the project’s raw construction work had been completed, including the 48,000m2 3-storey international passenger terminal.
In addition, a floor formwork system is being installed on 2 1m-wide pedestrian sidewalks covering around 7,500 m2 on the 623m-long and 7m-wide overpass in front of the terminal.
The construction of the over 40,000m2 parking area, which will be able to handle around 500 cars and coaches, is now underway. It is expected to be completed within the new few months.
The project’s construction contractors are focusing all their human resources and specialised equipment on completing the installation of the terminal’s partitions and roof before 30 September when the rains and storms might begin. To date, the installation of the terminal’s roof frames has been safely completed.
