Half year review of socio-economic performance
Over the first half of the year, Da Nang’s gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 7.9% compared with the same period last year to hit 24,501 billion VND. The city’s total State budget collection reached 9,728.8 billion VND, representing 65.1% of the year's estimates as set by the municipal People’s Council. A total of 1,705.9 billion VND was spent on local construction projects, over 1,490 billion VND of which came from the city’s budget.

During that period, the focus was on speeding up the construction of some local key projects, including the construction works in preparation for the forthcoming 5th Asian Beach Games and the 2017 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit.
Importance was also attached to implementing some of the city’s large-scale projects. Included were the Vinmec international hospital, a zoological park like the Vinpearl Safari Park on Phu Quoc, the Ocean Park project, a new tunnel under the Han River, and the architectural planning for both banks of the Han River.
This information was revealed at a meeting on Tuesday between the city leaders and the Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment, Mr Dao Quang Thu, to review the implementation of the local socio-economic development targets over the first half of the year.
Addressing the event, Deputy Minister Thu highly appreciated the city’s remarkable achievements, especially in tax collection and investment attraction. He urged the municipal authorities to accelerate the disbursement of public investment in the immediate future.
Municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Tran Van Mien thanked the Deputy Minister for his notable analysis and evaluation, and for pointing out the city’s shortcomings in implementing its socio-economic development and public investment projects. He pledged to speed up basic construction investment disbursement during the rest of this year.
