Over recent years, Da Nang’s tourism sector has made every effort to reach its target of welcoming a total of 8 million visitors from both home and abroad in 2020.

In particular, numerous tourism promotion programmes have been organised in Ho Chi Minh City, Ha Noi, Da Lat, Can Tho, and Hai Phong to advertise Da Nang’s images to more domestic tourists.

In addition, the municipal Department of Tourism has participated in numerous tourism events in other countries to access new potential markets.  Included were the International Trade Fair for Travel and Tourism (OTDYKH LEISURE) in Russia, the International Travel Expo in Hong Kong, the China International Travel Mart (CITM) in Shanghai, the JATA Tourism EXPO in Japan, and the Incentive, Travel and Convention Meetings Asia event in Thailand.

The Director of the city’s Havi Travel company, Mr Pham Dinh Hoang, stressed the need for domestic travel agencies to seek new potential markets whilst ensuring the best services for their existing ones.  He remarked, “More efforts should be made to develop new special tourism products to attract more domestic and foreign visitors to the city”.

The Deputy General Director of the city’s Viet Nam Tourism Joint Stock Co (Vitours), Mr Le Tan Thanh Tung, said “In attempting to attract more foreign visitors, especially those from Japan, the city authorities should issue more incentive policies to appeal for domestic and foreign investment into a resort for the Japanese elderly.  Greater efforts should be made to support local businesses if they participate in tourism promotion activities in foreign countries”.

Chairman of the municipal Travel Association Huynh Tan Vinh stressed the need for the local tourism sector to improve professionalism in its tourism promotion activities.  One emphasis should be on developing new effective but low-cost measures to advertise the city’s tourism brand name in domestic and foreign markets.

According to a spokesperson from the Department of Tourism, the focus should be on identifying the city’s key consumer markets in order to develop suitable plans to fully exploit such tourism potential.  Also, importance should be attached to expanding the city’s tourism market into other countries and promoting luxury holiday and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) tourism.

Over recent years, the Department has established bilateral cooperation with many foreign tourism representative offices based in Viet Nam, from Thailand, Singapore and South Korea.

In addition, Da Nang has set up representative offices in many countries, including South Korea, China, Thailand, and Malaysia, to boost its tourism promotion activities.

Also, the focus has been on ensuring close links between tourism sectors in the central region and highlands, and developing new domestic and international flight routes into the city to meet the increasing travel demands of visitors.
