The latest load brought the total volume of cargo transported through the port so far this year to 7 million tons, including 300,000 TEUs on container ships.
Despite being affected by the global shipping industry downturn, the port has made great efforts to overcome its difficulties and make numerous significant achievements. It is likely to have received 7.25 million tons of cargo by the end of this year, including 320,000 TEUs, up 13% and 24% respectively against last year.
Since the start of the year, the port has upgraded its infrastructure in order to receive more cruise ships and their passengers. It is expected to have welcomed 73 cruise ships, with a total of 135,000 passengers and crew members on board, by late this year.
In particular, the port has recently completed the upgrade of its wharf No 5, and this has allowed the port to receive Asia's largest and most spacious cruise ship, Genting Dream, every Tuesday.
