The construction of many key projects in Da Nang have been completed in time to mark the 20th anniversary of the city being recognised as a centrally-governed city on 1 January 1997.

In particular, after over a year of construction, the around 250 billion VND Children’s Cultural Palace has now been put into operation.  Covering an area of over 33,000m2 on 2 September street, near the Asia Park, the 3-storey Palace features multifunctional and entertainment areas, study rooms, a library, a meeting hall, and other areas.

The Palace’s Director, Mr Nguyen Nhan, said “This new home for local children, which boasts a youthful style of design, is an ideal place for local youths to attend training courses or exchange activities to enhance their talents and improve their physical health.  In addition, it is a place where the operational model of the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneers Organisation is being applied in the city.”

Also, construction of the new Hoa Xuan Stadium has now been completed.  The 20,000-seater stadium features a 5-tier A stand with single-tier B, C and D stands. In addition, there are drinking, eating and toilet areas, plus other rooms. The new stadium’s playing surface is planted with US Princess 77 Bermuda grass, and it includes a fish-bone-shaped underground drainage system and an automatic watering system.  Like the Pleiku Stadium in Gia Lai Province, the stadium is only designated for football.

On 19 December, the Da Nang Fine Arts Museum at 78 Le Duan officially opened to the public.  It is the result of an upgrade, which began in May 2015, of the former Centre of Cultural Heritage Management.  The new museum now houses traditional and modern works of art from the city, the south central region, and the highlands.

Meanwhile, some other projects are still under construction.  Included are the new terminal at Da Nang International Airport, an infrastructure system at the Hi-tech Park, a link road between Hoa Vang District's Hoa Phuoc and Hoa Khuong communes, the extension to Nguyen Tat Thanh street, the Phu Loc wastewater treatment plant, a cardiovascular centre at the Da Nang General Hospital, the Hoang Sa Exhibition House, a road from the Hue T-junction to the Hoa Cam overpass, a road tunnel to take Tran Phu under the busy junction with Le Duan, and the Da Nang International Hospital.

Apart from the newly completed and still underway projects, work has also been started on many other projects such as the Athlete Training Centre at the Hoa Xuan Sports and Physical Training Complex, and new infrastructure projects for APEC 2017.

Finally, work has started on a tunnel at the intersection of Dien Bien Phu and Nguyen Tri Phuong streets, and this is expected to be completed before 30 September 2017.
