ODA loan suggested for upgrading 14D Highway
The Da Nang Department of Planning and Investment will ask the Prime Minister for permission to put the city’s project to upgrade Highway 14D onto the list of national ODA loan projects for the 2017 - 2020 period.
The upgrade of this highway is one of the city’s key transport infrastructure projects. It has been given approval by the Prime Minister to access loans from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The road is part of the East-West Economic Corridor No 2 (EWEC2) project which connects Da Nang with the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS). It starts from the city’s Highway 14B, which begins at Tien Sa Port, and ends at Quang Nam Province’s Dac Oc Border Gate into Laos. The road then links with Laos’ highways 16B and 16E which run through its Se Kong and Pakse provinces, and finally connects with Nakhon Province and Bangkok in Thailand.
The 14D Highway plays an important role in creating a link between the countries along the EWEC: Viet Nam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and Myanmar. The EWEC holds an important strategic position for the socio-economic development, security and defence of Da Nang, and the central region and highlands as a whole.
