The number of foreign visitors to Viet Nam reached nearly 1.2 million in February, increasing 19.1% against the previous month and 42.2% compared with the same period last year.

After surpassing the milestone of one million foreign visitors per month in January, the number of foreign visitors continued to increase this month.

The country welcomed 2.2 million foreign visitors in the first 2 months of this year, up 33% against the same period last year, reported the General Statistics Office.

In 2016, Viet Nam’s tourism sector served 62 million domestic visitors and welcomed a record 10 million foreign tourists, up 25% year-on-year.

The sector expects to receive 11.5 million foreign visitors and 66 million domestic ones this year, generating 460 trillion VND (20.3 billion USD).

The sector also aims to receive up to 20 million international tourists annually and serve 82 million domestic visitors by 2020, contributing 10% to gross domestic product. Tourism revenue is expected to reach 35 billion USD.
