The statement was made by municipal Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Xuan Anh during a recent meeting between some of the city leaders and representatives from 400 local businesses.

Secretary Anh remarked that this was the first meeting ever held in the city between the city leaders and such a large number of businesspeople.  He said, “The city authorities have always highly praised the great efforts made by the local business community in accelerating the city’s progress over recent years”.  He also wanted to convey the message that the city leaders will always listen to opinions of businesses and are always willing to give support to them.

Over the past 2 decades, since Da Nang was recognised as a centrally-governed city on 1 January 1997, the city has seen numerous remarkable changes to its face thanks to the great efforts made by the local business community.  Most notably, the city led Viet Nam’s Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) rankings for the 3 consecutive years from 2013 to 2015.

Also at the meeting, some of the local businesspeople pointed out the difficulties facing them in accessing business premises and bank loans, and completing administrative procedures.

The Vice Director of the city’s branch of the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), Mr Nguyen Tien Quang, underlined the need for the city authorities to sack employees who often harass local citizens and businesses during the handling their administrative procedures.

Vice Chairman Quang also suggested that the city authorities should show more concern for local small and medium-sized enterprises (SME).

The Deputy General Director of the city’s branch of Heineken Vietnam Brewery, Mr Nguyen Thanh Phuc, proposed that, apart from making oral pledges, the city authorities should support businesses via practical activities.

Municipal People’s Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho pledged that more dialogues between the city leaders and businesspeople would be held in the near future.  He added that specific land use plans, prices and related policies will be widely displayed in the mass media so that local businesses, especially SMEs, can find suitable premises.

Also at the meeting, 20 businesses were honoured with Certificates of Merit from the municipal People’s Committee in recognition of their outstanding dedication towards the city’s progress over the past 2 decades.

The honourees were Da Nang Rubber Company, Danapha Pharmaceutical JSC, the city’s branch of the Heineken Vietnam Brewery, Da Nang Port Company, the Hoa Tho and 29 March textiles and garments companies, Da Nang-Mien Trung Investment Company, Da Nang Power Company, Song Thu Corporation, Civil Engineering Construction Company No 545, Da Nang Airport Service JSC, Song Thu Cable and Telecommunication JSC, Binh Vinh Corporation, Danameco Medical Joint Stock Corporation, Sun Group, Central Power Corporation, Bac My An Tourism Company, Lottery and Financial Printing Service Company, VNPT Da Nang, and Petrolimex Da Nang.
