Since the start of the Lunar New Year, many inshore fishing vessels from Da Nang have had bumper catches of tiny shrimps.  Thanks to the high value of small shrimps, each of the fishing boats has earned between 3 and 10 million VND every night.

Every morning, the local fishermen are kept busy carrying baskets of the tiny shrimps from the fishing boats to the shore.

Fisherman Nguyen Nam from Son Tra District’s Tho Quang Ward said, “In the late afternoon of 28 February, a crew member and I made an inshore fishing trip.  By around 3.00am the following day, we had a bumper catch of tiny shrimps and returned to shore.  I have recently earned between 3 and 4 million VND per night.”

Ms Hoang Thi Hien from the district’s Man Thai Ward remarked that, over recent days, many fishing boats in the district have brought back between 100 and 500 kilos of tiny shrimps after their night-time inshore fishing trips.  The price per kg of tiny shrimps is from 50,000 - 70,000 VND.  Each crew member can receive between 1.5 and 2 million VND per night.

She added that the post-Tet bumper catches of tiny shrimps would be enough to support her whole family for a few months.

Fisherman Nguyen Dinh Tam from the Tho Quang Ward said that most local fishermen felt very happy with their bumper catches because they can earn over 1 million VND per night instead of around 700,000 VND for other fishing activities.
