Efforts to promote intellectual property rights
Over recent years, the Da Nang Department of Science and Technology has enhanced the management of intellectual property rights (IPR) in the city. The focus has been on raising awareness about the important role of IPR amongst local businesses during their trading and production activities, and helping them to register the IPR of their brand names.

Currently, the Department is helping 4 local businesses to do exactly this. Among them is the ‘TOB multifunction cradle’ project which has been designed and developed by 4 local students namely Dang Hoa Gia Huy, Phung Khac Liem, Phan Nhut Tien and Ngo Minh Hoa.
This multifunctional product for newborns to 3-year-olds can be used as a carrycot, pushchair or pram, and helps parents to save up to 30% of the cost of these 3 separate products.
The cradle features Japanese technology which helps a baby to sleep naturally, deeply and comfortably. In addition, it is fitted with a toilet alarm system which will alert parents and reduce the risk of the baby developing intertrigo and urinary tract infections.
With the help of the Department, the Nhon Phuoc Mushroom Cooperative has successfully registered the IPR of its ‘Nhon Phuoc Mushroom Cooperative’ brand name, the Nghi An Bean Sprouts Cooperative with the ‘Nghi An Bean Sprouts’ brand name, and some products and services involving locally-grown ganoderma lucidum mushrooms with the ‘Da Nang Ganoderma Lucidum’ brand name.
Ms Vu Thi Bich Hau, Deputy Director of the Department, highlighted the important role of registering the IPR of local businesses’ brand names in order to protect their own legitimate rights and interests in the commercialisation process of intellectual property.
She remarked that the process would help the city to promote its creative research activities, and create a safer and healthier investment and business environment. She noted that in the future, the focus would be on facilitating businesses to learn about and register the IPR of their brand names.
