Of this figure, the number of foreigners climbed by 91.2% to hit 84,556, whilst that of domestic visitors went up by 26% to 226,778.

The increase in visitor numbers was mainly attributed to the successful opening night of the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival 2017 and the fascinating activities within this year’s Beach Tourism Season programme, along with other entertainment programmes which took place over the holiday.

According to the latest statistics from local relevant agencies, the number of visitors staying overnight in accommodation establishments during the holiday period jumped by 32.4% against the same period last year to hit over 109,444.   Most notably, the number of foreigners made up between 65 and 70% of the total, with the majority coming from China, South Korea, Japan and European countries.

Local 4 and 5-star hotels enjoyed room occupancy rates of between 90 and 100% during the 4 days.   Rates of between 90 and 95% were recorded at such large resorts as Furama Resort Danang, Crowne Plaza Danang, Fusion Maia Danang Resort, Premier Village Danang Resort, Sandy Beach Non Nuoc Resort Da Nang, and Naman Retreat Danang Resort.

The popular local attractions such as the Marble Mountain Tourist Area, the Ba Na Hills Resort, the Hoa Phu Thanh entertainment area, the Ngam Doi eco-tourism site, and Nui Than Tai Hot Springs Park, all saw many visitors.  For instance, the Marble Mountain Tourist Area welcomed around 20,000 tourists, up around 12% against the same period last year, and 7,000 of them were foreigners.

According to the Mr Nguyen Duc Vu, Deputy Head of the Management Board of the Son Tra Peninsula and Tourism Beaches, the peninsula welcomed large crowds of visitors during the holiday.  They particularly visited the Linh Ung Pagoda, the Vong Canh Hills, the Ban Co (Chess Board) Peek, and the thousand-year-old banyan tree.

In similar vein, such tourism beaches as Sao Bien, Man Thai and those near the East Sea Park were relatively crowded all day long.  Crowds gathered at these beaches to swim or to take part in the various exciting cultural and sporting activities during the Beach Tourism Season programme from 28 April and 3 May.

Many locals and visitors showed their keen interest in activities including a kayak race called ‘Vuot Song My Khe’ (Journey from the Fall of My Khe Beach), exploring the city’s night sky through telescopes, the Son Tra tour guide competition, and a swimwear flash mob.

Mr Nguyen Tien Trung, a visitor from Ha Noi who came to paraglide, happily reported that he had enjoyed the dazzling panoramic views over Da Nang, especially the amazing beauty of the Son Tra Mountain and the magical Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara statue at the Linh Ung Pagoda.
