The survey aimed to collect general information on visitors from both home and aboard, along with their trips, spending, and the evaluation of local tourism services.

In particular, the majority of interviewees were in the age-group of between 15 and 44.  In detail, over 80% of the foreigners were first time visitors to the city, and mere 7% of them returned to the city for more than 3 occasions.

The average spending by the domestic and foreign visitors in the city was over 2.7 million VND and 5.3 million VND per person over the average 3.6 and 3-day stay periods respectively.

Especially, over 70% of the interviewees’ spending was on accommodation, eating and drinking, and transport services, whilst the remainder was spent on entertainment and relaxation activities, plus other services.

Tourism has been considered as one of the city’s local spearhead economic sectors.

Last year, tourism contributed 23.72% to the city’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP).

Furthermore, employment involved in the tourism sector was created for 77,026 local job seekers, accounting for 13.94% of the city’s total job opportunities.

The above survey was part of a project for analysing tourism’s contribution towards the city’s progress, thereby helping the city authorities develop more effective strategies to upholding tourism’ position as a local spearhead economic sector.

At Wednesday’s meeting, municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh underlined the importance of joining efforts by the experts and relevant local agencies to conduct a future survey on 3 years’ tourism activities in the city to gain best possible results.
