After its trip of 20 days to the traditional Hoang Sa fishing grounds, vessel QNg 98668 TS from Quang Ngai Province’s Duc Pho District has now returned to the wharf and brought back more than 9 tonnes tuna in total.

Thanks to the bumper hauls, the boat made a profit of around 300 million VND, after deducting the expenses of their trip, and its crew members received 10 million VND each.

Despite having celebrated Tet away from home, the boat’s crew members were very pleased with their first safe and fruitful offshore fishing trip of the 2018 Lunar New Year.

The boat’s crew members will be allowed to return to their homes for a week’s relaxation before their next trip to the Hoang Sa waters.

These fishermen said such an offshore fishing trip indeed helps them earn a living as well as protect the country’s sacred sovereignty over its sea and islands.

In a similar vein, vessel BD 96814 TS from Binh Dinh Province also recorded the first bumper catches of the year - 4 tonnes of scad valued at 40,000 VND per kg, 1.5 tonnes of silver pomfret worth 120,000 VND per kg, and a large volume of high-value tuna and round scad.

The boat’s owner said he and other crew members would make the next trip to the Hoang Sa waters in the coming days in the current context of favourable weather conditions at sea to make another profitable catches.

It was reported that, on the 4th day of the 1st lunar month, many fishing vessels from the central region started heading out to sea for their first post-Tet trips to Viet Nam’s territorial waters.

Currently, many of the vessels at the wharf are also busy making preparations for their next offshore trips in the hope of bumper catches.

From now until the 15th of the 1st lunar month, a large number of offshore fishing vessels from Central Viet Nam are expected to continue docking at the Tho Quang fishing wharf after their trips to the Hoang Sa fishing grounds
