Hoping for post-Tet bumper catches
Over recent days, some fishing boats from Da Nang and elsewhere in Central Viet Nam have been tied up bumper-to-bumper at the Tho Quang fishing wharf due to bad weather conditions. However, some vessels recorded bumper catches from their recent offshore fishing trips to the national territorial waters.

After its trip of 20 days to the Hoang Sa fishing grounds, the owner of vessel DNa 90657 TS from Thanh Khe District’s Xuan Ha Ward was very pleased with the catches of a total of more than 7 tonnes of tuna, valued at between 60,000 VND and 70,000 VND per kg.
Likewise, mother ship BD 97222 TS from Binh Dinh Province also brought back a total of 2 tonnes of crabs which had been purchased from other offshore ships.
This mother ship mainly involves in offering fisheries support services in the national territorial waters. In particular, the ship buys the seafood caught at sea directly from boats operating here, and supplies fuel and necessary provisions to offshore fishermen.
Mr Tran Van Muoi, the owner of the DNa 90777 TS from Son Tra District’s Man Thai Ward said his ship recorded the lower-than-expected amount of fish due to unfavorable weather conditions at sea.
However, the fisherman felt very happy as his crew members were actively involved in rescuing the DNa 90339 TS from Thanh Khe District’s Thanh Khe Dong Ward which was in distress at sea, and towing it back to the mainland.
Currently, many fishing vessels are busy making preparations for their first offshore fishing trips of the new lunar year in cheerful spirits in the hope of bumper catches.
They together hope that the local fishermen would have a year of successful trips in order to help them earn a living as well as protect the country’s sacred sovereignty over its sea and islands.
Over recent days, many fishermen have made ‘tat nien’ (year-end) offerings to pray for prosperity and safety throughout the year, especially peaceful offshore fishing trips, with bumper catches.

His boat is expected to return to the mainland on the 12th day of the 1st lunar month, hence, he and his crew members will celebrate Tet away from home.
This fisherman said that he has prepared sufficient Tet dishes for him and other crew members to enjoy Tet celebrations onboard the boat, and they hope that they would have a year of successful trips.
