Currently, coastal tourism services are thriving mainly along beaches in Son Tra and Ngu Hanh Son districts, especially on such popular beaches as Pham Van Dong, My Khe and T18. Most notably, the My Khe Beach has been the most favourite public site in summer with its convenient services and good infrastructure.

In an attempt to fully tap the great potential of the city’s coastline stretching over a distance of 9km along Nguyen Tat Thanh Street, the municipal government has approved to grant over 46 billion VND (2 million US$) from the city budget to develop tourism services there over the 2018 – 2020 period.

This project is scheduled to begin in the 2nd quarter of this year

Under the project, the whole makeover will be conducted in a bid to give a more attractive face to the 7 beaches stretching along Nguyen Tat Thanh route, namely Xuan Ha, Phu Loc, Ho Tung Mau, Tran Dinh Tri, Nguyen Chanh, Nam Xuan Thieu and Nam O.

In detail, heed will be on providing more rescue equipment and tools for lifeguard teams on duty at these beaches, and maintaining marine security and environment as well.

More public utilities for swimmers will be established along these beaches, including dressing rooms, fresh water showers, green spaces, lighting systems, toilets, benches where people can sit to relax or sightsee.

In addition, there will be service areas, including drinking and eating counters, souvenir shops, and water sports providing establishments.

To make the Nguyen Tat Thanh coastline quite different from other local coastal routes, this area will be refurbished and developed towards the community-based tourism model which has been applied successfully in Boracay Island in the Philippines, a paradise for certified sun-worshippers all over the world.

Many residents living nearby said they hoped that beaches along the Nguyen Tat Thanh Route would be given a ‘new coat’, thereby making them more inviting as those stretching from the East Sea Park to the T20 beach area.

Apart from the promotion of beach tourism services along the Nguyen Tat Thanh Route, a total of 30 billion VND from the city budge will be spent on upgrading the existing beaches of Sao Bien and Phuoc My, along with those along the Truong Sa-Vo Nguyen Giap-Hoang Sa route.

According to Mr Tran Dai Nghia, the Deputy Head of the Management Board of the Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang Tourism Beaches, his agency has already asked for permission from the city leaders to create entertainment areas for children in front of the Whale Temple and the East Sea Park.
Besides, the establishment of night-time cuisine and souvenir selling areas at the end of the Nguyen Van Thoai-Vo Nguyen Giap route will be under consideration to satisfy the entertainment and shopping demands of visitors.

In the coming months, importance will be attached to organisating various exciting cultural and sporting events during the upcoming Beach Tourism Season, the 2018 Da Nang - Summer Rendezvous programme, plus beach sports and night-time entertainment activities.

It is recommended that special heed should be paid to upgrading drainage systems along coastal streets and stopping the sidewalk trading of seafood disorderly to ensure a clear space for pedestrians.
