On Tuesday, representatives from the Da Nang Department of Information and Communications hosted a working group from the Catalonia Trade & Investment in Spain. They together discussed cooperation potential between the two sides in building the smart city model.

In his remarks at the meeting, Director of Information and Communications Nguyen Quang Thanh said, in addition to promoting socio-economic development strategies, the city has focused on building the smart city model which is being developed on the basis of the e-government system.

Since 2014, the city has effectively operated the e-government system, and successfully piloted many smart applications in such various aspects as bus management, traffic control, surveillance camera, automatic water quality monitoring, environmental monitoring and food safety management.

Early this year, the city approved the IT architecture framework for the smarty city project featuring 5 levels in total, namely connection, monitoring, storage, processing-analysis, and control and automation of some process management.

Director Thanh also asked for help from the Catalonia Trade & Investment to carry out specific cooperation activities with the city as soon as possible, especially in the building of the smart city model.

Also at the meeting, Mr Alberto Martin, the Head of Government Relations of the Smart City Expo World Congress, and Ms Sim Siang Chin, the Trade and Innovation Consultant at the Catalonia Trade & Investment learned more about Da Nang’s master plan for its ongoing smart city building project, especially the application of information technology in urban management.

The Spanish guests underlined the significance of conducting even more bilateral cooperation programmes in the coming time.

They also took the opportunity to invite the city to attend the Smart City Expo World Congress 2018 which is scheduled to take place in Barcelona, Spain, from 13 - 15 November 2018.
