Notable amongst these recommendations were the idea of developing Tho Quang fishing wharf in a modern, ecological, and environmentally friendly manner, as well as ensuring comprehensive solid waste management, natural resource waste classification and solid garbage recycling.

Accordingly, the Yokohama guests underlined a must-do to develop the fishing wharf in the direction of harmonious combination between economic development and environmental protection.

The intention is to fully tap fish catch potential, to promote natural disaster mitigation, and environmental sanitation management through the application of modern equipment and techniques.

It was also proposed that importance should be paid to dredging sludge out of the bottom of the wharf, and then filling up with sand instead in order to improve the environment, and developing logistics functions for the wharf, modernising seafood processing facilities, and especially, enhancing seafood freezing techniques to preserve products’ peak freshness.

At a discussion on solid waste recycling and sludge treatment, Director of the municipal Department of Natural Resources and the Environment Le Quang Nam said the pilot implementation of solid waste management project to promote classification and recycling activities in the districts of Hai Chau and Thanh Khe, funded by the Yokohama City budget, has seen initial positive results.

It is highly recommended that that Yokohama City should continue to share its experience in promoting solid waste recycling and classification activities right at families, and administrative, commercial and service establishments.

Also, Yokohama City was suggested to introduce Da Nang more environmentally-friendly technologies used to create a recycling system featuring managing waste from its source of generation to the final disposal point: the soon-to-be-built solid waste treatment complex.

The city is seeking suitable sites for the construction of the complex, either on the southeastern side of the Khanh Son Waste Dump or in Hoa Vang District’s Hoa Nhon Commune.

Also at the event, experts from the Takematsu Shoji Co. Ltd introduced a circular solid waste recycling project in Da Nang, with a focus on producing animal feed from fresh leftover, and producing fertilizer from spoiled food waste, leaves and rotten plants.

To realise the project, the Japanese company suggested that manufacturing facilities should cover an area of 5,000 m2, and it will be installed with modern equipment worth about 3 billion VND.

The project is expected to be implemented within a period of 3 years starting from this November onwards.

Once it is fully operational, the project will generate an annual revenue of more than 1.8 billion VND from the sales of livestock feed.

Meanwhile, representatives from another Japanese company proposed a comprehensive waste management model through the classification and recycling of waste at the source in combination with waste-to-energy method and the disposal of waste materials by burial.
