Residents give full support to city authorities in land acquisition for public works

Da Nang’s residents have voiced their strong support for the city authorities’ move to take back land which was handed over to businesses at their delayed coastal and downtown projects in order to develop squares, parks, parking areas, bathing areas, and other public works.

This positive result has been mainly attributed to the city leaders’ active engagement in successful negotiations with these projects’ investors with the aim of satisfying the general public’s demand for enjoying the common space, whilst securing the interests of the investors.

Earlier this year, the municipal administration gave the green light to the land withdrawal at the sites of some delayed projects for the purposes of public works.

Noticeably, relevant local agencies have carefully rechecked projects which failed to meet the committed progress in Ngu Hanh Son District to create walkways allowing public access to beaches, coastal parks, and public bathing areas.

In their positive response, most residents have given their full support to the city’s plans for the construction of public works at the sites of the stagnant coastal projects.

As for the creation of walkways to beaches, it is hoped that work would start on the construction as soon as possible to promote the beach use by local inhabitants and visitors arriving in the city.

In fact, the soon-to-be-opened footpath helps to create airy space connecting beaches with nearby residential areas, as well as to promote public beach use for the general public, and to beautify the urban landscapes.

Over recent months, the city authorities have worked closely with project developers to discuss and negotiate about the land withdrawal plans.

The expansion of the APEC park aims to create even more green spaces for the city centre, and allow diplomatic events and festivals to be held here as well.

Up to now, the municipal People's Committee has approved detailed 1:500 planning maps for publics works which will be constructed on the soon-to-be-withdrawn parts of some projects.

In detail, a coastal public park with the intention of promoting public beach use will be created at the site of the Hon Ngoc A Chau coastal tourism project, whilst a bathing area associated with a public park at the site of the DAP company’s coastal tourism project, a stroll garden associated with an underground parking facility at the Da Nang Centre project to west of the Trung Vuong Theatre, a stroll garden at the Vien Dong Meridian Tower project to south of the Trung Vuong Theatre, and the expansion of the existing APEC Park in Hai Chau District’s Binh Hien Ward.

Currently, the Management Board of Da Nang Infrastructure Construction and Urban Development Projects is effectively coordinating with other relevant local agencies to complete procedures regarding land acquisition, compensation and resettlement.

Meanwhile, the creation of planning maps are now underway for publics works which will be constructed at soon-to-be-taken- back restaurant - café - bar and marina complex owned by the I.V.C company and its coastal tourism project opposite to the Huyen Tran Cong Chua Street.

In a similar vein, the municipal government has also asked the municipal Department of Construction to consider the building of a coastal park and bathing area complex on the northern side of the Song - Danang Beach Villas project.

At a regular meeting held on 5 October, Da Nang People's Committee Chairman  Huynh Duc Tho underlined an urgent need for concerned units to complete compulsory procedures as soon as possible so that the public works can be deployed within this year.

Thanks to high determination of the city authorities and the strong support from local citizens, agreements have been reached with some project developers about taking back their land for the construction of public works.

This happy sign, indeed, helps to strengthen the general public’s trust in the city leaders –issued decisions and polices, hereby accelerating the construction of public works and promoting the city’s socio-economic progress.
