Development of high-tech agriculture in city

Over recent years, farmers in Da Nang’s Cam Le District have actively promoted the application of advanced technology into agriculture in order to improve the quality of its outputs and ensure its biosecurity.

In particular, since 2017, farmers in the district’s Hoa Phat Ward have grown hydroponic vegetables at the headquarters of the ward People’s Committee on a trial basis.

Mr Ngo Ngoc Thanh, Chairman of the ward Farmers’ Association, highlighted the efficiency of this method in producing organic vegetables and enhancing the productivity.

He added a domestic investor has recently decided to fund for a project to grow hydroponic vegetables in the ward. Accordingly, 100 million VND will go to implement the 1st phase of the project, with a focus on building hydroponic systems, transferring this technology free-of-charge to those who show their keen interest in, and organising training courses on planting hydroponic vegetables for farmers.

By using advanced technologies in planting Mokara orchids, Mr Le Thanh Trung has recently received a Certificate of Merit from the national Farmers' Association in recognition of his remarkable achievements in his own farming activity.

Mr Trung owns a 35,700 Mokara orchid growing area in Hoa Vang District’s Hoa Chau Commune. He has used an automatic irrigation and fertilisation technology controlled by his smartphone. As a result, he can earn around 2 billion VND in profits annually.

In the poultry raising aspect, local farmers have applied advanced technologies in raising Dong Tao chickens (also called dragon chickens).

Notably, Mr Nguyen Van Lieu residing in the district’s Hoa Tho Tay Ward is well-known for applying hi-tech into raising chickens for eggs. He is raising around 5,000 chickens and earns about one billion VND in profits every year.

Mr Lieu said he has used biological products to handle bad odour from chicken cages, installed temperature and humidification control systems, and built biogas systems.

Mrs Hua Thi Thuy Phuong, Chairwoman of the Cam Le District Farmers' Association, remarked that her organisation would work closely with relevant agencies to organise training courses on the application of hi-tech into agriculture, transfer advanced technologies to local farmers, and build an hi-tech agricultural production model, in a bid to promote the hi-tech applications in the district’s farming industry.
