Punishment of 6-month operation suspension imposed on 2 steel plants for environmental violations
The Da Nang People’s Committee has imposed a total of 1.14 billion VND in fines and a 6-month suspension on the Dana-Uc and Dana-Y steel factories, both located in the expanded Thanh Vinh Industrial Cluster in Hoa Vang District’s Hoa Lien Commune, for environmental violations.
The Dana-Uc plant has been fined 740 million VND and had their operation suspended for 6 months to conduct environmental remediation |
In detail, the Dana-Uc and Dana-Y plants were fined 740 million VND and 400 million VND respectively for their violations.
The 2 plants did not strictly comply with the environmental impact assessment reports on their projects, as well as failed to obtain certificates on the completion of environmental protection works in service for the operation stage of their projects.
Also, the violators did not keep their hazardous waste records, and committed other related environmental violations.
The violated factories were also forced to take environmental improvement measures.
Previously, the operations of the 2 plants were temporarily suspended from 28 February due to their reportedly polluting activities.
The shutdown decision was adopted after a large number of local residents had complained continuously that the operations of the 2 steel factories had affected the local landscape and residents’ lives, and were not in line with the development strategies for the area.
The municipal government gave the green light to allow the 2 plants to resume their operation in late March, but for only 6 months, to process their stockpiles in a bid to reduce their losses.
