Local businesses face year-end worker shortage

With around 4 weeks to go to the New Year, many businesses operating in Da Nang are focusing on recruiting employees to complete this year’s orders and preparing for next year’s new ones for their domestic and foreign customers. However, they are now facing many dificulties in finding new employees meeting their requirements.

Noticeable amongst big firms which are thirsty for staff are the city branch of Eurowindow with a need of 240 employees, the Kad Industrial Sa Viet Nam Company Limited with 200, the Sao Viet Tien Mechanical Refrigeration JSC with 100, and the Thuan Phuoc Seafood and Trading JSC with 500.

Mr Tran Van Linh, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Thuan Phuoc company said, in order to recruit 500 employees for year-end production targets, his company started placing job recruitment ads several months ago in such many places as company headquarters and local floors for employment exchanges. However, the company still finds it very difficult to recruit enough as expected.

According to Mr Nguyen Thanh Diep, the Deputy Director of the Da Nang Employment Service Centre, many enterprises are in urgent need of recruiting technical workers and manual labourers.

Most of the job opportunities offered involve in textiles, mechanics, and power.

The Centre-launched job fairs which take place on Fridays each month. During these events, businesses failed to recruit their needed employees because the number of skilled workers applying for jobs was still low.

Mr Diep pointed out to the fact that it is difficult for enterprises to recruit necessary workforce as year-end approaches because they face a tough competition against others. Another reason why the labor market has become quiet is that job seekers in the city are interested in finding a stable job after Tet break ends.

According to the municipal Employment Service Centre, 286 businesses participated in job fairs in November, offering a combined total of more than 5,400 job positions.

Aspects with the highest recruitment demand are textiles and garments with a need of more than 1,000 workers, followed by mechanics with 488, hospitality and tourism services with 307; and electricity and refrigeration with 286.

However, the participating businesses only recruited more than 20% of their expected figures.
