Businesses busy on Valentine's Day and God of Wealth Day

Today, the bustling trading ambience is seen at many shops selling Valentine gifts, and gold shops because the God of Wealth Day (the 10th day of the 1st lunar month) falls on 14 February this year.

Flower is considered as an indispensable item on Valentine’s Day.

Many flower shops which are located at the Han Market, and along such major streets as Tran Phu, Nguyen Thai Hoc and Pham Phu Thu, are very creative to offer different kinds of flowers. These shops, in recent days, have been crowded with male buyers.

Amongst different types of flowers, red roses remain the bestsellers. The retail price of a sprig of roses now ranges between 10,000 VND and 15,000 VND.

Meanwhile, many flower vases and baskets are being offered at the prices between 250,000 VND and over one million VND each, depending on the types of flowers and sizes of baskets.

Like fresh flowers, wax and handmade flowers are also preferred by buyers.

Currently, bunches of handmade flowers are on sale at the prices of between 80,000 VND and 200,000 VND each, whilst the retail price of a wax flower is 15,000 VND.

Gold dipped roses, priced at 250,000 VND and more each, are also favourited by buyers.  

In addition, many customers prefer to hunt new and attractive products such as edible fruit and cake bouquets such as strawberries, chocolates, kitkat cakes and lollipops.

Also on the same day, many people rushed to buy gold on the occasion of the God of Wealth Day (the 10th day of the 1st lunar month).

Legend has it that the God of Wealth returns to heaven on the 10th day of the Lunar New Year, and so Vietnamese people have a tradition of buying gold on that day to hope for good luck and prosperity throughout the year.

In addition to traditional products such as figurines representing the God of Wealth and those with Phuc (Happiness), Loc (Prosperity), Tai (Wealth) and Tho (Longevity) written on them, gold companies have launched a variety of other items featuring the pig because 2019 is the Year of the Pig.

A representative from the Hoa Kim Nguyen Gold Shop on Trung Nu Vuong Street said that the shop’s bestsellers were 18k gold rings of wealth at the prices of between 1.2 and 5 million VND each, and 9999 gold lucky charm bracelets because these products can be presented for the purpose of being a Valentine's Day gift and keeping good luck on the God of Wealth Day.

According to a representative from the PNJ Silver Shop on Phan Chau Trinh, most of the shop’s products on sale are made from high-class silver at the prices ranging from hundreds of thousands to millions of VND.

Besides, the shop is offering 30% discount on some items, as well as launching other attractive promotion programmes.
