Da Nang boasts many rivers stretching from rural to urban areas, which provides great potential for the city to promote the development of river tourism.

Most notable of the rivers is the Tuy Loan River in Hoa Vang District.

When taking a sightseeing boat tour along this peaceful rural river, visitors will have the opportunity to discover the beauty of ancient houses and traditional Vietnamese communal houses.

Included are the 200-year-old Tich Thien Duong house in Hoa Nhon Ward’s Thai Lai Village, and the Tuy Loan and Bo Ban village communal houses.

In addition, the boat tour will provide a chance for tourists to visit numerous fruit-laden orchards in Thai Lai Village, along with many time-honoured traditional crafts such as the making of sedge mats in Cam Ne Village, ‘banh kho me’ (dried sesame seed cakes) in Quang Chau, and traditional conical hats in La Bong, and the bamboo knitting in Yen Ne.

In attempting to promote the development of river tourism, the municipal Department of Tourism made a video clip called ‘Da Nang River Tour’ in 2015 with the intention of advertising the simple yet attractive beauty of Han and Tuy Loan rivers, and the numerous inviting places alongside these rivers.

Since this interesting video clip went on the internet, boat tours have become even more attractive to visitors, and those who have never taken part in this type of tours might now be eager to discover.

In a bid to fully tap Hoa Vang District’s tourism potential, in 2017, the district’s Culture and Information Office implemented a project on building community-based eco-tourism areas in Thai Lai Village and Hoa Nhon Commune.

Accordingly, some new types of tourism have been deployed such as community-based eco-tourism associated with villages, and ancient village tourism associated with traditional festivals and historical and cultural relic sites.

Besides, some traditional craft villages have been restored.

Notably, the district authorities have encouraged their local residents to develop homestay tourism services, and create areas specialising in serving rustic Vietnamese dishes in their residential areas.

The Office’s Head Do Thanh Tan said the district authorities are joining forces with the municipal Department of Tourism to promote the development of river tours.

In particular, his district will be responsible for encouraging local residents to develop even more special tourism products, including launching tours to local vegetable growing areas, plus rice paper and Quang noodle making villages. These tours will give tourists the opportunity to enjoy a natural life and experience farming activities.

Greater efforts will be made to upgrade the infrastructure in rural areas, as well as expand the vegetable growing areas, and fruit-laden orchards in Thai Lai Village.

Heed will be paid to accelerating the signing of a contract with a professional consultancy unit from Ho Chi Minh City. The intention is to give consultancy services for the district authorities in developing specific tourism products and issuing community tourism standards.
