In recent days, the Da Nang authorities have increased the publicity of information about African swine fever (ASF) virus which does not affect humans amongst local residents. Thanks to this, locals have felt more secure about the origin and quality of pork, and have started to eat meat again.

Mr Nguyen Manh Tai residing in Son Tra District’s Man Thai Ward remarked in recent days local media agencies have widely publicised that no ASF outbreaks have been discovered in the city, and the ASF virus does not pose a hazard or a risk to humans. Therefore, his family has still eaten pork every day.

Mrs Pham Thi Hanh, a small trader selling pork at the Con Market, said recent days have seen a slight increase in the consumption of pork compared with previous days.

She also hoped that the local authorities would increase the publicity of information about ASF amongst local residents in order to help them feel more secure to eat meat every day.

Mr Nguyen Dac Hung, Head of the Management Board of the Con Market, highlighted the important role of pork traders in helping their customers clearly understand about ASF.

He also suggested that pork sellers should pay more special attention to checking the quality of their sold meat at slaughter houses in order to ensure the health of their customers.

Local functional bodies advised locals not to buy meat of unclear origin and not being certified by the veterinary inspection agency at spontaneous pork selling areas on local streets and pavements.

The Head of the municipal Agency of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, Mr Cao Xuan Thai, advised locals not to buy meat of unclear origin and not being certified by the veterinary inspection agency at spontaneous pork selling areas on streets. He encouraged them to buy pork at traditional markets and supermarkets with food safety and hygiene certificates.

“Although the ASF virus does not pose a hazard or a risk to humans, the meat of domestic pigs and wild boar should always be cooked before eating”, he advised.

According to the municipal Agency of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, there are some units and businesses supplying safe and quarantined pork across the city.

Included are the city’s branch of the Viet Nam CP Livestock Joint Stock Company, the Dac Vinh Company, the Co.opmart, Big C Mall, Lotte Mart, Vincom Mall, and VinMart + convenience stores.
