Slaughtering and consumption of pork back to normal
The slaughter of pigs and the consumption of pork products across Da Nang have returned to normal after recent outbreaks of African swine fever (ASF) in some Vietnamese localities, Mr Cao Xuan Thai, the Head of the municipal Agency of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, said on Sunday morning.
Many local residents have resumed the consumption of pork. |
Accordingly, the number of pigs slaughtered at slaughterhouses across the city reaches more than 1,400 in total per day, an increase of over 300 compared with previous days in mid-April.
In particular, about 1,150 pigs are slaughtered at the Da Son Slaughterhouse per day, equal to that of previous days. Meanwhile, other slaughterhouses in the city have returned to their normal operation in recent days.
Mr Pham Tuan Anh, the Director of the Da Nang Poultry Processing JSC, confirmed the number of pigs transported into its Da Son slaughterhouse has returned to normal.
He affirmed his company and local slaughterhouses would continue joining forces with the municipal Agency of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary to strictly implement quarantine measures for pigs on farms and import pigs with clear origin. The purpose is to provide safe pork products for customers.
Mr Thai reaffirmed the ASF epidemic has been put under control in Viet Nam, with multiple localities reporting no new outbreaks. No case of ASF has been reported in Da Nang to date.
He, however, noted the city is still on high alert against this epidemic, and it is taking concrete measures to prevent the spread of ASF and pig-related diseases to the city.
