Making night markets more attractive to visitors
The effective operation of Son Tra and Thanh Khe night market and An Thuong tourism quarter in Da Nang in recent times have helped to satisfy a growing demand for entertainment and shopping services amongst both local residents and tourists.
After more than 9 months of operation, the Son Tra Night Market has attracted a large number of shoppers |
These venues are expected to inspire more visitors to extend their stay periods and increase their spending here, and facilitate locals to increase their income through trading activities at these sites as well.
Developed by the DHTC Da Nang Co Ltd, the Son Tra Night Market, located along sections of Mai Hac De and Ly Nam De streets in the namesake district, has attracted a large number of locals, and visitors from both home and abroad, most of whom are from South Korea, China, the U.K, and France.
There are a total of about 160 stalls selling fashionable clothes, bags and footwear, food and drinks, specialities, dried seafood, souvenirs, books, pictures and other commodities.
Mr Do Ngoc Thi Ca, the Director of DHTC Da Nang Co Ltd said, after more than 9 months of operation, this market welcomes 5,000 - 6,000 shoppers. On Saturdays and Sundays, and especially public holidays, 8,000 - 9,000 visitors come here each night.
DHTC Da Nang Co Ltd has already asked for permission from the Son Tra District People’s Committee to open an additional 100 stalls at this night market in the coming time.
In a similar vein, after nearly 2 months of operation, the Thanh Khe Tay Night Market, associated with a pedestrian area, located along Yen Khe 1 Street in Thanh Khe District, has attracted a great deal of public attention.
Visitors to the night market feel very satisfied with relaxing moments as they have the chance to purchase some neccessities, play games, enjoy musical performances, and try some delicious street dishes.
In addition to providing a new entertainment space for locals and visitors, the Thanh Khe Tay Night Market has contributed to creating job opportunities for many people.
However, the above-mentioned nigh markets have seen a high consumption of products on sale by only domestic visitors, mainly the young.
In reality, the majority of such products on sale at their stalls as hats, bags, footwear, mobile phone covers, and cases are also available at local traditional markets, and souvenir shops across the city.
Meanwhile, it is the fact that foreign visitors show their keen interest in special tourism products featuring the distinctive characteristics of the land and people of this seaside beautiful city; for instance, special, compact, and convenient souvenirs.
According to the city’s tourism experts, in order to attract even more visitors to these night markets, it is essential for traders to diversify their products on sale here.
It is an encouraging sign that a stall in the Son Tra Night Market has attracted many shoppers through the trading of lovely special tourism souvenirs featuring such local landmarks as the Han River and Dragon bridges, and the municipal Administrative Centre.
According to, Mr Nguyen Tien Quang, the Director of the Da Nang branch of the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), such night markets should not only serve normal commercial activities but they but they also advertise the city’s cultural beauty and culinary values to domestic and foreign visitors.
