At Tuesday meeting, Da Nang People’s Committee Vice Chairman Le Trung Chinh asked competent agencies to focus on upgrading the DHTC Da Nang Co Ltd-developed the Son Tra Night Market, located along sections of Mai Hac De and Ly Nam De streets in the namesake district.

In detail, importance should be attached to developing some more kiosks at this night market if necessary in tandem with opening souvenir shops here, ensuring sidewalk order along the whole Tran Hung Dao riverside route. Appeals for private investment into the implementation of these items will be made in the coming time.

Besides, the Department of Transport will be responsible for developing the riverbank handrails, and proposing plans to ensure safety for visitors coming here. Also, families living in the vicinity will be encouraged to open their own kiosks to diversify products here.

Furthermore, heed should be paid to developing more cultural activities based on existing infrastructure at the night market, and developing the An Thuong pedestrian street operating around a clock as soon as possible.

The Department of Tourism has unveiled the overall plan to set up a pedestrian street combining entertainment services and night market along a 1.8km-long section of Tran Hung Dao, between the eastern ends of the Han River and Rong (Dragon) bridges.

Under the plan, there will be 4 separate zones: a folk game area, a book street and souvenir stands from the eastern end of the Han River Bridge to the junction with Nguyen Cong Tru Street; food courts and a street arts area between Tran Hung Dao’s intersections with Nguyen Cong Tru and Trieu Viet Vuong streets; a modern and traditional musical performance area and a square at a park near the eastern end of the Dragon Bridge; and Son Tra night market along sections of Mai Hac De and Ly Nam De streets.

After more than 9 months of operation, the Son Tra night market welcomes 5,000 - 6,000 shoppers. On Saturdays and Sundays, and especially public holidays, 8,000 - 9,000 visitors come here each night.
