Work is scheduled to start in September 2020 on the dredging of sections of the Co Co River, which runs through Da Nang.

The 20 km-long river flows through Da Nang and Hoi An, a tourist-packed city in Quang Nam Province. The upcoming dredging work is as part of a project to develop a waterway route connecting two of Central Viet Nam’s most well known tourist destinations for the sake of their tourism development.

The above-mentioned information was released at Monday’s meeting between some of the city’s key leaders, accompanied by local National Assembly (NA) members, and voters in Ngu Hanh Son District.

The city leaders and NA members briefed the voters on the results from the recent 11th session of the Da Nang People’s Council in its 9th tenure for the 2016 - 2021 term.

Addressing the event, Vice Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Le Trung Chinh said, recently, functional local agencies have dealt with the unauthorised operation of makeshift eateries causing environmental pollution.

Also, solutions to the shortage of tap water for local residents during the scorching weather have been proposed by the local authorities.

From now until the end of the year, focus will be on completing many key tasks. Notable amongst them will be the buildup of a special mechanism for the city in line with Politburo's Resolution No 43-NQ/TW regarding the city’s progress by 2030 with a vision toward 204, with a target at developing Da Nang towards the direction of becoming a green, modern-smart, global city with unique identity.

Heed will also be paid to minimising environmental pollution, effectively implementing site clearance and compensation, and accelerating economic development in tandem with associated with developing cultural facilities across the city.
