He also remarked that currently the city has been focusing on constructing the Lien Chieu Port, and developing a modern seaport city as a whole, in order to create a driving force for the city’s socio-economic growth.

Special attention would be paid to boosting tourism development in the Son Tra Peninsula in a sustainable manner, in combination with conserving the biological diversity of the Son Tra Nature Reserve.

Also at the event, Mr Dung asked the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), to send their studies in planning for Da Nang’s high growth that have been conducted over the past 4 years to the municipal authorities.

It is known that the Rapid Planning Project has been implemented in Da Nang since late 2015 through the cooperative programmes between Germany and Viet Nam.

Under the project, over the past 4 years, workshops and training courses have been organised to improve the capacity of local government officials in urban, water, sewage, waste and agriculture planning.

In addition to completing a map of competent parties in interdisciplinary urban planning, the project has surveyed and evaluated local energy consumption and socio-economic models. Specially, an interdisciplinary rapid planning toolkit has been developed.

Some experts from German research institutes, Da Nang will be the second city in the world to be allowed to collect and analyse data, as well as develop scenarios through this toolkit.

They also highlighted the significance of the toolkit in helping the city make planning quickly, promote its economic growth, and ensure social security and environmental sanitation.
