The city's efforts for environmental protection and sustainable development
According to the Da Nang Department of Natural Resources and the Environment, a total of about 14 trillion VND (equivalent to over 600 million USD) went to deploy environmental protection projects in the city during the 2008-2018 period.

In detail, 511.4 million USD was from Official Development Assistance (ODA), nearly 56 million USD (equivalent to 1,300 billion VND) from the city budget, around 60 million USD (equivalent to 1,400 billion VND) from district-level budgets, and the remainder from other sources.
In addition, the city called for financial aid from ministries, departments and agencies nationwide conducting scientific research to deploy some projects, totalling 48 billion VND, on environmental protection and natural disaster mitigation.
During that period, Da Nang has fostered the bilateral cooperative relations with Sweden's Boras City, Japan’s Yokohama City and South Korea’s Daegu City, plus many global and regional financial and technical organisations. The intention was to ask for a helping hand from them to handle environmental problems, and promote the urban development as a whole.
Besides, individuals, organisations and businesses were encouraged to join forces with the municipal authorities to build Da Nang into an environmentally-friendly city through promoting the implementation of such meaningful activities as waste water treatment, tree planting, afforestation, cremation, public toilet construction, and environmental sanitation on beach.
Claiming to be a really big fan of Da Nang by himself, Mr Axel Van Trotsenburg, the Vice President of the World Bank (WB) for East Asia and the Pacific, said that he was really love the city’s beautiful natural landscapes, especially the My Khe Beach which was voted one of the 6 most beautiful beaches in the world by the US Forbes Magazine in 2005.
He added every time he visited Da Nang, he often woke up early to walk along the beach and swim.
Vice President Trotsenburg said WB has implemented many projects in Da Nang, with a focus on infrastructure construction and environmental protection. Overall, these projects have helped to make Da Nang more beautiful, and ensure its sustainable development.

WB is a major sponsor of many important projects that have helped to boost city’s development over the past decade, including the Priority Infrastructure Investment and Sustainable Development projects.
The above-mentioned projects have helped the city upgrade and build synchronous infrastructure, improve the environment, and ensure its sustainable development.
Mr Trotsenburg expressed his hope Da Nang would soon become a member of the WB-funded Global Platform for Sustainable Cities (GPSC) in a bid to promote environmental protection.
He vowed that WB would continue giving even more assistance to the city to carry out its construction projects effectively.
