A business forum on promoting Indonesian trade, tourism and investment activities in Viet Nam took place in Da Nang on Monday morning.

It was part of the ongoing International East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC) Trade and Tourism Fair 2019 in the city.

In his remarks at the forum, municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh proudly said Da Nang has recorded numerous achievements in trade, investment and tourism aspects over recent years thanks to its preferential policies and investment support mechanisms. In addition, the city’s investment environment has been improved significantly, whilst its competitiveness has been constantly increased.

Mr Minh added his city boasted modern infrastructure and high-quality human resources, which has recently helped to foster the city’s socio-economic development.

He noted the city ranked first in exports amongst central regional and highlands localities. In 2018 alone, the city's total export and import turnover hit 1.6 billion USD and 1.4 billion USD respectively.

“However, the two-way trade between Da Nang and Indonesia is still modest as the city earns only 300,000 USD every year from exports to Indonesia, and imports from there are valued at about 3 million USD per year. The city’s exports usually include handicraft products, finished rubber products, and toys for children”, Vice Chairman Minh said.

Therefore, he stressed the need to strengthen trade, tourism and investment promotion and exchange activities between Da Nang and Indonesian enterprises in the years to come in a bid to fully tap their potentials.
