Hostels are becoming a more popular alternative than traditional hotels for many self-sufficient travellers. This is mainly attributed to their cheap prices, modern designs, full facilities and spacious space. As a result, recent years have seen a boom in the number of nice hostels in Da Nang.
The coastal city is now home to as many as 50 hostels. However, the accommodation establishments often face a shortage of vacant rooms during the peak tourism season which begins in September and continues through to March.
Barney's Danang BackPackers Hostel in Son Tra District is a typical example. It is now a popular address with domestic and foreign travellers to the city.
Located at 169 Tran Hung Dao Street in Son Tra District, the hostel welcomes between 20 and 30 visitors every day, and up to 90% of them come from South Korea and European countries.
Mrs Cristiana from Italy said due to being situated along the eastern bank of the Han River, the Barney's Danang BackPackers Hostel overlooked the beautiful local bridges, the romantic Han River, and crowded streets. From this venue, she can easily reach some of the city’s popular tourist attractions.
She also remarked staying in a hostel dorm was the easiest way to make friends. She added that during her stay in the hotel, she made friends with 5 people from France and Switzerland.
As foreign backpackers prefer to stay in hostels than traditional hotels due to low-budget accommodation services, domestic young travellers choose to stay in hostels in order to improve their English skills.
29-year-old Nguyen Minh Nhat said he liked staying at hostels during his visits to Da Nang because of their reasonable prices and great convenience for his travel purpose. He added staying in hostels was also a good way for him to be able to meet and make friends with foreigners in order to improve his English skills.
The hostel owner Vo Thi Thanh Loan revealed “My Italian husband is very interested in backpacking travel, and he used to stay at many hostels around the world. Realising the increasing demand for hostel accommodation amongst backpackers, my husband and I decided to open a hostel after settling down in Da Nang”.
Mrs Loan added taking inspiration from Barney, the main actor of the ‘How I Met Your Mother’ film, their hostel featured a gentle design and professional services.
Thanks to their eye-catching and special designs, plus reasonable prices, hostels across the city have been more attractive to visitors from both home and abroad.
