New international routes help the city increase tourist arrivals
In addition to Da Nang’s efforts in developing attractive new tourism products and conducting effective tourism programmes abroad, the opening of new non-stop international routes connecting the city with other destinations worldwide has helped to increase international visitor arrivals in the locality. Thanks to this, the tourism industry has promoted significantly.

Late last month saw the official opening of new nonstop air routes connecting Da Nang with Cambodia’s Phnom Penh and Japan’s Haneda, both of which are highly expected to bring even more travellers from these foreign localities to the Vietnamese central city.
According to Chief Executive Officer of Cambodia Angkor Air Hoang Manh Tuan, the non-stop Da Nang and Phnom Penh flight aims at promoting travel demand and cultural exchanges between Central Viet Nam and Cambodia.
In the near future, not only does this new air service bring more travellers from Da Nang, and the central region at large, to Cambodia, but it also increase the visits by those from ‘the land of temples’.
Chairman of the municipal Tourism Association Cao Tri Dung underlined a need for the city’s tourism industry to pay more heed to developing services targeted at foreign tourist source markets, including Muslim countries.
The first non-stop charter flight between Russia and Da Nang is set to take off on 26 March 2020, using 336-seat B767-300 aircraft, representatives from the Anex Viet Nam, under the Russian travel firm ANEX Tour in Moscow City, unveiled.
Between March and September next year, the charter flights will carry travellers from Russian localities, namely Novosibirsk, Krasnoyask, Irkutsk, and Moscow, to Da Nang every 10 days. Once operation, the new nonstop charter flights will bring a monthly average of about 3,000 passengers to the city, and their average length of stay here will be some 10 days.
The introduction of the charter flight really demonstrates a positive move taken by the Da Nang authorities and its tourism industry in diversifying its foreign tourist source markets, and enhancing the quality of locally-offered tourism services.
In his constructive recommendations, Dung suggested that the city’s tourism industry enrich its highly inviting products which satisfy the states of Russia visitors, hereby encouraging them to return to the city later.
According to Ms Huynh Thi Huong Lan, the Deputy Director of the municipal Tourism Promotion Centre, in addition to meeting travel demand of locals, the new air routes opens more gateways to Da Nang for tourists from European and North American markets.
In parallel with regularly promoting the opening of new air services, recently, the municipal Tourism Department joined its force with the Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA) to organise a writing contest on Da Nang’s tourism, exclusively for young Japanese travellers.
Running from 10 September until 5 October, the ‘Hey Danang Fantasticity’ contest attracted 133 Japanese participants.
Nine outstanding participants were awarded a free 4-day and 3-night vacation in Da Nang later this month. The trip package includes airline tickets, accommodation, meals, and sightseeing expense.
“This contest is also an ideal way to explore the feelings and tastes of Japanese tourists about Da Nang, and serves as an effective channel to advertise Da Nang’s image to this highly potential tourism source market”, affirmed Lan.
Japan is now Da Nang’s third largest tourism source market. Lat year, the city welcomed about 132,800 visitors in total from ‘the land off rising sun’.
