Farmers get busy busy in the build-up to Tet
Farmers across Da Nang are now busy preparing their agricultural products in the build-up to Tet Festival which will begin on 25 January.
From now until Tet, as many as 1,000 tonnes of red tilapia fish will be provided for Tet markets |
Since mid-December 2019, dozens of tonnes of such agricultural products as vegetables, fruits, fish and chickens have been provided for Tet markets every day.
Due to favourable weather conditions, farmers at the La Huong vegetable growing area in Cam le District’s Hoa Tho Dong Ward offer a daily average of a tonne of vegetables to Tet markets.
According to the farmers, the prices of vegetables at this year's market are not much different from those of last year's. In these days leading up to Tet, the prices of vegetables are expected to significantly rise due to the increasing consumption demand for Tet holiday.
Between 25th and 30th days of the 12th lunar month, more than 2 tonnes of vegetables of all kinds will be provided for Tet markets every day.
Apart from vegetables, local farmers have already prepared for dozens of tonnes of fruits and farm-raised fish to local markets.
Mr Pham Chi Toan from Hoa Vang District’s Hoa Khuong Commune said farmers in the Phu Son Freshwater Fish Farming Cooperative have been farming more than 40 tonnes of basa, carp and sesame fish. From now until to the Lunar New Year, about 200 tonnes of fish of all kinds will be provided for local markets.
In the next few days, the prices of farmed-fish will go up by between 25% and 35% due to a severe shortage of pork and its rocketing prices.
Currently, the Nhon Phuoc Chicken Cooperative based in the district’s Hoa Nhon Commune has offered a daily average of 2,000 chickens.
More than 110,000 chickens and 16,000 ducks are being raised on farms and families across the city.
