Local fishermen enjoy bumper catches ahead of Tet

In the early morning of 23 January (the 29th day of the 12th lunar month), many fishing vessels berthed bumper-to-bumper at the Da Nang-based Tho Quang Fishing Wharf after their offshore fishing trips to the Hoang Sa waters.

Returning ashore after 2 weeks of fishing in the northern parts of the East Sea, 865-CV fishing boat DNa 90621 TS brought back 10 tonnes of tuna, mackerel, and sailfish. It has been the boat's 12th offshore fishing trip so far this year. The boat's offshore trips have helped its crew members earn 4 billion VND in profits during the year.

Mr Dong Van Den residing in Son Tra District's An Hai Bac Ward, the owner of fishing vessel DNa 90621 TS, said that he and his crew members earned 400 million VND from their catches.

The owner of fishing boat DNa 91105 TS, Mr Nguyen Van Dieu, said "Our boat brought back 4.5 tonnes of fish, mainly tuna. We earn 220 million VND from our catches".

Most notably, many fishing boats from such central localities as Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Thanh Hoa, and Thua Thien Hue also docked at the Tho Quang Fishing Wharf  in the early morning of Thursday.

“During this offshore fishing trip, we brought back 11 tonnes of fish, mainly mackerel and tuna. We will return home to celebrate Tet with our families. Right after Tet, we will return to Da Nang to head out to sea ”said fisherman Tran Van Nho, a crew member of fishing boat QNg 98165 from Quang Ngai Province.

According to Mr Huynh Van Phuong, Head of the Management Board of the Tho Quang Fishing Wharf and Port, 30 fishing boats in total docked at the Tho Quang Wharf on Thursday morning, and brought back about a total of nearly 200 tonnes of seafood.
