Despite a one-day holiday break for the New Year holiday, Da Nang welcomed a large number of visitors from both home and abroad.

On Wednesday morning, the Da Nang Department of Tourism held a welcome ceremony for the first over 170 air passengers to set foot in Da Nang on New Year's Day at the city's International Airport.

The foreign first footers from European and Middle Eastern countries arrived on a Qatar Airways-operated flight No QR996 from Doha City.

In the afternoon of the same day, another 120 air passengers from Kansai (Osaka) were welcomed at the International Airport by representatives from the Department and Vietnam Airlines.

According to preliminary statistics, thousands of air passengers on about 170 flights landed at Da Nang International Airport on New Year’s Day.

A spokesperson for the municipal Department of Tourism said the tourist arrivals in the city is estimated to hit 183,979, up 9.99% compared with the same period last year over the Christmas and New Year holidays. Of this, 110,800 were foreigners, up 8.79%, whilst the remaining 73,179 were domestic visitors, up 11.86% against 2019.

The majority of tourist arrivals were mainly from Northeast Asian, European, American and ASEAN countries.
