Manufacturing and trade sectors in Da Nang have been hit hard by widespread economic disruptions in China due to the outbreak.

Government departments and agencies in the city are making great efforts to strengthen preparedness for a potential economic downturn.

In particular, the municipal authorities will issue preferential mechanisms and policies in order to attract more large and multinational economic groups, and strategic investors, to pour their money into the city. The focus will be on promoting the development of the city’s 5 spearhead economic areas: tourism and high quality services; seaports, airports and logistics; high-tech industry; information technology; and high-tech agriculture, and fisheries.

Besides, importance will be attached to boosting investment promotion activities both at home and abroad, as well as implementing programmes and projects to build Da Nang into a smarter city.

Meanwhile, the municipal Department of Industry and Trade will help local businesses seek new raw material sources from such countries as India and Thailand in a bid to reduce their dependence on China.

The department will work with the city’s Management Board of Food Safety and Hygiene to check the origin and quality of food products before they go on sale in local traditional markets and supermarkets, as well as ensure the sufficient supply of food for residents, especially special quarantine areas for suspected cases of coronavirus, in the city.

Meanwhile, the Department of Tourism will launch tourism stimulus programmes in the city in order to increase visitor arrivals.

Also, heed will be paid to target new visitor markets, and opening new non-stop air services connecting Da Nang and other destinations worldwide.
