Over the past four and a half decades, Da Nang has paid special attention to promoting the development of its infrastructure to ensure the city’s sustainable growth.

The face of the city has changed dramatically thanks to the impressive development of infrastructure systems
The past 45 years has seen dramatical changes to Da Nang with its impressive infrastructure investments

Notably, one of the highlights of infrastructural works in the city is the Hai Van Tunnel 1. Being officially opened to traffic in 2005, it became the longest road tunnel in the Southeast Asia region and one of the 30 largest and longest in the world.

The tunnel was created using the New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM), also known as the sequential excavation method, which is a popular method of modern tunnel design and construction. This modern tunnelling technique has been successfully applied in many developed countries across the world because it has more advantages than conventional methods.

Currently, the similar method has been used to build nationwide tunnels, including Deo Ca, Phuoc Tuong, Phu Gia, and Hai Van 2.

Also, Da Nang is dubbed ‘a city of bridges’ as it boasts numerous amazing bridges spanning the Han, Cam Le, Tuy Loan and Yen rivers. All of them are the true pride of the city because of their unique architectural characteristics.

In particular, the Han River Bridge is considered as the symbol and the great pride of Da Nang. The bridge, the first of its kind in Viet Nam, is the first swing bridge designed and constructed by Vietnamese engineers and workers..

Since it was officially opened to traffic in 2000, the bridge not only facilitates transport, promotes the development of tourism, and stimulates rapid growth on the eastern bank of the Han River and along the coast, but also is a cultural hallmark of the people of Da Nang today left behind for the future generations.

Another work is the Thuan Phuoc Suspension Bridge spanning the mouth of the Han River linking Nguyen Tat Thanh Street with the Hoang Sa-Truong Sa route.  The 1,856m-long, 18m-wide, 6-lane bridge, with its 655m-long suspended main span, is the longest suspension bridge in Viet Nam.

The Rong (Dragon) and Tran Thi Ly bridges have become the city’s new landmarks and the pride of local people. They have emerged as a must-see feature of Da Nang and ideal places for visitors who like taking souvenir photos during their stay in the city.

Specifically, the Dragon Bridge won the Diamond Award in the 2014 Engineering Excellence Awards (EEA) in the structural systems category, and the ‘Special Citations’ Award at the 2014 International Association of Lighting Designers’ (IALD) International Lighting Awards.

In addition, the city is proud of other construction works, including the Da Nang Administrative Centre, and the Tien Son Sport Arena.

The development of new unique infrastructural works have helped enhance the attractiveness and reputation of Da Nang as a beautiful and friendly city.
