The city's industrial production down by 3.71% in first 4 months
According to the Da Nang Statistics Bureau, Da Nang’s Index of Industrial Production (IIP) for April dropped by 7.12% compared with March, while the figures for the first 4 months of this year showed a decline of 3.71% against the same period last year.
The four-month fall in the city’s IIP is mainly because of the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and the heavy dependence of manufacturers and traders in Da Nang on raw materials imported from China.
In April, the mining industry went down by 29.7%, the processing and manufacturing industry 3.4%, the electricity production and distribution 2.1%, and water supply and garbage treatment 3.7%.
Meanwhile, some manufacturing industries that account for a significant proportion of the city's industrial production saw a sharp decline in their productivity due to shrink consumer markets.
In particular, clothing production decreased by 40.4%, wood processing 40.1%, automobile parts 20.4%, and electronics, computers and optical product manufacturing 14%.
However, in the processing and manufacturing industry, a number of industries increased significantly between January and April. Food processing rose by 30.1%, chemicals and chemical products went up by 22.2%, and pharmaceuticals increased by 54.9%.
