The development of eco-industrial parks (EIPs) will help Viet Nam attract foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows and promote the country's sustainable and green growth following the Vietnamese government’s Decree No 82/2018/ND-CP about IP and economic zone management dated 22 May 2018,

Mr Pham Truong Son, the Head of the Authority of Da Nang’s Hi-Tech Park and Industrial Zones said Da Nang is developing EIPs in its efforts to boost the city's sustainable economic growth and realise its goals of becoming an environmentally friendly city.

In particular, the Hoa Khanh Industrial Park has been converted into an EIP on a trial basis since 2016 as part of the ‘Eco-industrial Park Initiative for Sustainable Industrial Zones in Viet Nam' project. It was jointly developed by the Vietnamese Ministry of Planning and Investment and the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO).

The deployment of this pilot project has helped the city use its resources efficiently, and promote cleaner production (RECP) in 29 companies operating in the Hoa Khanh IP.

Meanwhile, the Da Nang Hi-Tech Park has been emerging as an ecological urban area in the city. The venue is now home to many domestic and foreign employees and experts, and their family members.

The Da Nang Dedicated Information Technology (IT) Park, adjacent to the High-Tech Park, has its design similar to the Silicon Valley model in the USA, and the Hsinchu Science Park in Taiwan, China. In the future, it is expected to become one of the best IT development communities in Asia.

Developed by the Da Nang Information Technology Park (DITP) Development JSC, the park is targeting to achieve annual revenue of 1.7 billion USD, create job opportunities for about 25,000 people, and attract even more IT and hi-tech investors, scientists and engineers.

Mr Lam Quang Binh, Director of the city-based IBSC Investment and Business Services Co., Ltd., highlighted the significance of the development of EIPs in Da Nang, and Viet Nam as a whole, to bring more benefits to businesses operating these EIPs.

Notably, these businesses will promote the use of clean and new technologies in an attempt to reduce environmental impacts, and have their production costs cut. Also, their competitiveness and profits will be enhanced.

Director Binh predicted that eco-industrial property segment will dominate the city’s real estate market in the time to come.
