Most recently, the Agro-Forestry-Fishery Promotion Centre under the Da Nang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has helped local fishermen install such advanced fishing equipment as fish finders, navigation systems, integrated vessel identification and monitoring systems, signal buoys, led lights and solar batteries for their fishing boats.

In particular, the Department has funded 50% of the costs of the equipment, whilst the remaining were borne by local fishermen.

Da Nang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Director Dang Van Hong said that, over recent years, many fishermen citywide have prioritised  modernising their existing vessels and increasing their efficiency with a focus on the installation of light fishing, modern refrigeration systems, and long-range communication devices.

Mr Hong highlighted the significance of the use of artificial light in fishing activities to reduce the investment costs of fishing gears. He remarked that light fishing involves the use of lights attached to structures above water or suspended underwater to attract fish to specific areas and facilitate harvesting. This method has been one of the most advanced and successful means employed in some types of fisheries in the world today.

To date, numerous fishing vessels operating in the city have been equipped with modern refrigeration systems to lengthen their products’ freshness, thereby enhancing the value of seafood products, as well as long-range communication devices such as ICOM 710, ICOM 718 and VX-170.

Besides, all fishing boats citywide have been installed with voyage monitoring devices.

In addition to building new fishing vessels with large capacity and installing with advanced fishing equipment, many fishers have focused on using fish preservation technology in order to preserve freshness and good appearance, prevent fish spoilage, and increase the shelf life of fish.
