Da Nang services sector in August heavily affected by coronavirus crisis
The services sector in Da Nang was the most heavily affected by the Covid-19 pandemic in August, the Da Nang Statistics Bureau said.
In details, the retail sales of goods reached only 3,871 billion VND in August, down by 20.5% against the previous month, and tumbling by 21.6% compared to the same period last year.
Total revenue generated from accommodation and catering services plumped by 75.7 % versus the month-ago period to stand at 434 billion VND, fulfilling only 23.3% of the figure reported in the same period last year.
Likewise, other consumer services earned only 647.9 billion VND in revenues, dropping by 55.5% and 57.3% against the previous month and the same period last year, respectively.
Also last month, due to the cancellation of all tours to the city as a result of the coronavirus outbreak, no increase in tourism revenues was reported. Since the start of this year, the revenue for the travel and tourism industry saw a drop of 63.6% versus the year-ago period to 557 billion VND.
Also facing the same trouble triggered by the pandemic, the passenger transport service earned only 112 billion VND in revenue last month, down 30.7% and 81.2% against to the previous month and the same period last year, respectively. Revenue for freight transportation, postal and delivery services suffered a decrease of 2-7% versus the month-ago period.
Industrial activities were also hard hit by the coronavirus crisis, the industrial production index (IIP) in August declined by 5.5% against the previous month.
The slight decline was reported in many industrial sectors, namely mining industry down by 60.1%, the processing and manufacturing 4.8%, the electricity production and distribution and water supply 8.2%
