The latest figures released from the Da Nang General Statistics Office show that Da Nang’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) in August went up by 0.41% against July, and a rise of 3.56% when compared with the same period last year.
The prices of 3 out of the 11 groups in the CPI calculations rose significantly compared to July. The highest increase was 1.61% for restaurant and food services. It was followed by goods and other services at 0.49% due to the rising demands of local residents for food as a result of Covid-19 outbreak.
Meanwhile, the price of transportation rose by 0.19% due to the hike in petrol price twice during the month.
By contrast, the price of housing, electricity and tap water, fuels and building materials showed slight decrease at 0.8%, in which that of house rentals went down by 1.18% because many landlords reduced rental fees for their tenants who are low-income earners and have lost their jobs due to Covid-19.
Also in August, there were no fluctuations of the prices of non-essential groups when compared to last month due to the closure of stores selling non-essential products during the pandemic.
Hence, average CPI in the first eight months of 2020 was 4.17% higher when compared with the same period last year.
