Developing Da Nang tourism industry in sustainable way
Looking forwards more sustainable tourism growth in the time ahead, the Da Nang authorities are mulling over the development of a landmark project on driving the development of Da Nang tourism industry to 2025, with a vision towards 2030 will be developed.

The intention is to help Da Nang tourism sector build up the most appropriate possible proportion amongst such basic tourism sub-sectors as accommodation, travel and tourism transport services.
There is no doubt that an increase in visitors numbers in Da Nang and the longer duration of visitors' stay is clear proof of the tourism industry’s growth.
In 2019 alone, the average length of stay by foreign tourists in Da Nang was 2.9 days, and 2.35 days for domestic ones, according to the municipal Tourism Department-released statistics. The 2013 – 2019 period saw the average annual growth rate of over 5% in the stay periods by visitors.
Besides, the average spending by the foreign and domestic tourists in the city was 7.37 million VND and about 3.55 million VND per person over the review period.
According to Assoc.Prof. Dr. Pham Trung Luong, the former Deputy Director of the Viet Nam Institute for Tourism Development, it can be seen that Da Nang has risen to fame as one of Viet Nam’s leading destinations in Viet Nam.
However, it must be worth noting that such components as tourist market structure, tourism products, material and technical facilities, human resources and how much money needed to be poured into tourism projects should be taken into account for the sake of more sustainable development.
Last year, a total of 5.92 million tourists stayed in serviced accommodation establishments across Da Nang, and according to calculations, such a guest figure must have needed a maximum of 37,090 rooms in total.
But, in reality, Da Nang now houses about 943 serviced accommodation establishments with a combined total of 40,074 rooms. Therefore, ‘supply’ of accommodation rooms has exceeded the ‘demand’ by about 8%, which may adversely affect the city’s common room occupancy rates. As a result, a harsher competition in the hospitality sector due to an over-supply of hotels is inevitable in the coming time.
Besides, the unreasonable labour structure involved in such basic tourism sub-sectors as accommodation, travel and tourism transport services must be resolved.
As of last year, total number of hospitality workers in Da Nang had stood at about 49,463, of which about 19.2% are in travel and transportation services, 61.3% in accommodation and catering services and the remainder reported in other tourism services.
Da Nang Tourism Department Director Truong Thi Hong Hanh affirmed, detailed plans will be mapped out to develop high-quality tourism and services associated with resort real estate, hereby building Da Nang into a leading tourist magnet in Central Viet Nam in the coming time.
At the same time, it is essential make Da Nang’s tourism products noticeably stand out amongst others nationwide and drive the tourism sector stronger in terms of professionalism, modernity, efficiency, and high competitiveness.
