Da Nang expects the Netherlands' support for improving technology in agriculture

Da Nang is now looking forwards to receiving active support from the Netherlands to increase the use of technology in the agriculture with enhanced climate change adaptability and welcoming even more Dutch investment into this burgeoning sector.

The statement was made by Da Nang People's Committee Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh at the Wednesday webinar. The virtual event was held by Da Nang government, the Vietnamese Embassy in the Netherlands and the Dutch-Viet Nam Agricultural Business Cooperation Association.

In the future, hi-tech agriculture will gain more in stature as one of the key drivers of the city’s growth. In an attempt to accomplish that goal, a series of many incentive solutions and supportive policies have been released by the municipal administration to entice more domestic and foreign investment into hi-tech agriculture.

In line with the master plan for the city’s major by 2030, with a vision to 2045, a concentrated hi-tech agricultural sub-division covering an area of 2,986 ha, in the suburb district of Hoa Vang will make its debut, targeting the production of vegetables, flowers, fungi and other diversified types of cultivars.

Till date, the Da Nang government has approved the detailed 1:500 planning maps for the construction of other ‘green agriculture zones’ boasting multi-layer greenhouses in the communes of Hoa Phong, Hoa Khuong, and Hoa Phu, all of which are totally consistent with the city's master plan and its strategies for the upgrading of rural areas.

In reality, Da Nang shows many similarities with the Dutch localities in the agricultural sector. Based this fact, the city is in real need of accessing modern Dutch cultivation technologies for the sake of its better agricultural performance in the coming time. 

Addressing the online event, Vietnamese Ambassador to the Netherlands Pham Viet Anh showed his delight at bilateral extensive cooperation in sustainable agricultural development and food security between Viet Nam and the Netherlands over recent years, hereby enhancing the South East Asian country’s modern agricultural value chains and its exports to the highly potential European Union (EU) market as well.  

Despite its limited land for farming, the Netherlands is now the world’s second largest agricultural producer due to large investment poured into infrastructure and technology, which has considerably enhanced its productivity
