The Da Nang authorities must actively support businesses which have been hit hard by Covid-19 pandemic to quickly access preferential mechanisms and policies on tax exemption, reduction, and extension, land fees, and the expansion of consumption markets so that they can stand firm and get through whatever challenges and obstacles.

The above recommendation was made by representatives of the Da Nang authorities at the Tuesday section of the 16th session of the Da Nang People’s Council in its 9th tenure for the 2016 - 2021 term.

Secretary of the Son Tra District Party Committee Tran Thang Loi called 2020 a year full of unforeseen incidents, including two coronavirus waves and hash weather conditions in Da Nang, all of which seriously affected the city's socio-economic targets set for this year.

Between 1 January and 15 November, 2020, a total of 1,029 enterprises and affiliated units across the city got dissolved, 1,936 others had their operations temporarily suspended.

In Son Tra District alone, for instance, many hotels, restaurants, travel agencies, transportation and tourism and service providers had their operations temporarily shut down.

Worse still, the Covid-19 pandemic is expected to remain complicated and unpredictable, with potential new waves of Covid-19 infections in 2021 and subsequent years, international health organisations and experts warned.

In response to these anticipations, Da Nang has no ways other than maintaining ongoing ‘new normal’ adaptations, and ensuring the realisation of Viet Nam's national government-mandated dual goal of containing the pandemic in tandem with driving the social-economic operations.

In particular, more measures should be taken to promote the effective restructuring of some economic sectors, and make a good facelift to such priority aspects as information technology and e-commerce.

At the same time, timely solutions should be sought to remove difficulties facing some key Da Nang industries including automobile manufacturing, rubber, electronic components, and water production.

Last, but not least, heed should be paid to speeding up agricultural restructuring, developing hi-tech agricultural areas specialising in organic products with high added value and safety.

With the same point of view as Mr Loi, delegate Nguyen Duc Tri from Cam Le District proposed Da Nang government conduct surveys and re-evaluate how the coronavirus crisis adversely affect Da Nang businesses so that the most appropriate possible supportive measures can be taken to spur their recovery.
