Leveraging potential of Da Nang for sustainable development

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc approved the adjustments to the master plan for Da Nang’s major developments to 2030, with a vision to 2045 on  March 15, 2021, with the aim of realising Da Nang’s goal of "Developing Da Nang into a major centre of social and economic activities in Viet Nam and Southeast Asia ”. This is a very important milestone to leverage the potential of Da Nang for sustainable development for the years ahead.

Striving to become a Vietnamese special city

During his meeting on 1 March with the State Appraisal Council to evaluate the effectiveness of Da Nang plan for sustainable development , Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc commended Da Nang government for its efforts in closely working with ministries and government agencies, and consulting agencies, as well as respecting opinions of the municipal People's Council which is elected by the local people to representing their views in a bid to create the best master plan for Da Nang.

Given that care has been taken to ensure that the adjusted master plan is viable as well identify and facilitate Da Nang’s development, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said: “Now, Da Nang is the first-lass city and Da Nang will be a special city in Viet Nam in the near future. I hope Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee and people of Da Nang will strive to bring Da Nang to new heights, both in terms of quality and scale of development ”.

The adjusted master plan has a planning scope covering Da Nang’s entire administrative boundary of Da Nang with a total area of about 129,046 ha. Under the adjustments to the master plan, Da Nang aims to turn itself into one of the major socio-economic hubs of Viet Nam, and Southeast Asia as a whole, a hub for entrepreneurship, innovation, tourism, commerce, finance, logistics, hi-tech industries, IT, support industries, a centre for high-quality culture, education, healthcare, science and technology development in Viet Nam, a destination for regional and international events, a seaport city.

At the same time, Da Nang targets to become an international marine city, serving as ‘a nucleus’ of the urban chain and the growth pole of a key economic zone in Central Viet Nam and Central Highlands, in tandem with taking its statures as an ecological, modern, smart and livable city and helping firmly ensure national defence - security and the country’s sovereignty over its sea and islands.

Deployment of large-scale projects to drive Da Nang’s growth

Under the adjusted master plan, Da Nang is in need of more than 232,000 billion VND in the 2020-2025 period, and over VND 63,000 billion  in the 2025-2030 period to carry out major projects. In total, VND 295,000 billion VND is required to realise the goal of Da Nang Master Plan to 2030.
There will be key future projects in Da Nang, including a complex of financial, commercial, service and entertainment centres, a cultural and entertainment park southeast of the city’s 2 September Peace Monument, the VinaCapital Da Nang golf course, the complex of facilities in service of the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival, a theme park to the south of the Son Tra Peninsula, the Ba Na - Suoi Mo eco-tourism complex, the Ba Na Hills tourist area, the Lang Van integrated resort tourist area, and the InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort.

In addition, the city will focus on high-tech development with a total area of about 1,710 ha of land, including Da Nang High-Tech Park and Expanded High-Tech Park; Dedicated Information Technology Park No. 1 and No. 2; Software Park No. 1, No. 2, No. 3. At the same time, an Innovation Cluster in the south of Da Nang associated with Da Nang University Village, an Innovation Center and a Software Park will be created.

Da Nang will also attach importance to developing logistics centres and warehouses covering a combined total area of about 229 ha. Specially, there will be the planned logistics centres for Lien Chieu, new Kim Lien Railway Station, the Da Nang High-Tech Park, Hoa Nhon IP, Tien Sa Port and the aviation industry.
Moreover, Da Nang will use the financial source to support the building of new infrastructure or the upgrades the existing in the city center. Included are Le Duan route connecting with Dong Da route creating a connecting axis from Dien Bien Phu to 3 February streets; Hoang Hoa Tham route running through Nguyen Tat Thanh route (running through the existing railway station) to create the main connecting axis from Nguyen Huu Tho - Le Dinh Ly - Hoang Hoa Tham - Nguyen Tat Thanh in order to reduce volume of traffic passing through adjacent roads.
