Long-term strategies needed to drive agritourism in Da Nang
Agritourism has become an inevitable trend around the world, and it is seen as a potential goldmine for driving the development of the tourism sector in Viet Nam, a country with an age-old rice civilisation.
The Tuy Loan organic vegetable growing area is included in Da Nang's visiting places in tours organised by tourism businesses and this place becomes new inviting site for tourists |
To grasp this opportunity, Da Nang has, over recent years, focused on developing agritourism and community-based tourism products in a bid to diversify the city's tourism products, hereby significantly increasing visitor numbers in the city.
Specifically, many agritourism and community-based tourism development projects have been carried out across the city. Included are community-based tourism projects in Hoa Vang District, Lien Chieu District’s Nam O Bay, Son Tra District’s Tho Quang and Man Thai wards, and at the historical relic site K20 in Ngu Hanh Son District.
Most recently, Da Nang government has already mapped out a plan to drive the tourism industry during the 2021-2025 period.
The plan will priority fully tapping the potential for the development of eco-tourism, community-based tourism associated with high-tech agriculture, and eco-agriculture on the western part of Da Nang.
In particular, tours will be opened to time-honoured traditional craft villages such as fruit-laden orchards in Thai Lai Village, and the Tuy Loan rice paper making village.
Meanwhile, tours to experience in high-tech agriculture and macrobiotic food will be created at the An Dinh - Pho Nam - Loc My cluster in Hoa Vang District’s Hoa Bac Commune.
Eco-tourism tours will be developed in the Hoa Vang District-based Duong Son flower growing village, and the Cam Le District-based La Huong vegetable growing village. These tours will help tourists get first-hand experience of a variety of farming activities such as growing organic vegetables and hi-tech flowers.
A recent survey shows that a number of tourism models associated with agriculture have been developed in the city such as the An Nhien Farm based in Hoa Vang District’s Hoa Ninh Commune, and the Yen Retreat Nguon Village tourist sites in Hoa Bac Commune. Such models promise tourists a wide range of exciting outdoor activities, including camping, going fishing and outdoor parties.
Some local tourism experts underlined a must-do for Da Nang to make greater effort to fully tap the potential for the agritourism development, and attract more investors to pour their money into ecotourism projects in a bid to boost the tourism sector.
Da Nang Tourism Association Chairman Cao Tri Dung stressed the need for Da Nang to boost tourism cooperation with other localities which have great strengths for this type of tourism in order to together develop numerous attractive joint tourism products to meet tourists' tastes and their demands.
Mr Dung pledged that his unit would give a helping to tourism firms to create unique tourism products to create a breakthrough for Da Nang tourism industry.
Sharing the same idea in developing agritourism model for tourists, Director of the municipal Department of Tourism highlighted the significance of the development of agriculture in Da Nang to diversify local tourism products and enhance living conditions of local farmers.
She revealed that, in the coming time, Da Nang would develop more new and environmentally-friendly tourism products which adapt to the tastes of tourists. She also highlighted the importance of the promoting the development of agritourism in combination with ensuring the environmental sanitation and persevering community cultural space in the city.
