Da Nang Port sees positive signs in 2021
Since the beginning of the year, Da Nang is determined to effectively implement its campaign under "The year of driving economic recovery and growth in the city" theme. Da Nang Port has recorded a high number of cargo ship arrivals and departures in the first quarter of 2021 which shows a positive signal to contribute to promoting the city’s economic development in the coming time.
A ceremony to mark the unloading of the first cargo of 2021 took place at the Tien Sa Port, part of Da Nang port complex, at 0:00am on 1 January, 2021. During the event, the cargos were unloaded from the internationally-renowned Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) –operated SPIRIT OF KOLKATA ship sailing under the flag of Marshall Islands.
First three container ships docked at the Tien Sa port on February 12, the first day of the Lunar New Year. They were Vietnamese flagship Bien Dong (East Sea) TRAIDER and HAIANBELL, and SITC ZEHJIANH of Hong Kong.
The Tien Sa Port has welcomed hundreds of container ship arrivals so far this year. In March, 2021 alone, it received 117 vessel arrivals.
Mr Tran Le Tuan, Chairman of the Board of Directors cum Acting General Director of the Da Nang Port Joint Stock Company said 2020 saw Da Nang Port remain strong on its feet in pursuing the ‘dual mission’ of complying with COVID-19 pandemic preventive measures in tandem with achieving the set targets despite the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic and natural disasters.
In response to Da Nang government-launched campaign under "The year to continue promoting investment attraction" theme, Da Nang port has attracted 5 new shipping lines to open new routes.
Notably, in 2020, Da Nang Port maintained its position in the top 100 Vietnamese sustainable businesses for the 4th consecutive year, has been honoured as Viet Nam’s best companies set up for their employees for the 5th consecutive year. In addition, Da Nang Port was one of 18 businesses operating in Da Nang which have been named among the top 1,000 corporate taxpayers (V1000) in Viet Nam to watch in 2019.
Last year saw Da Nang Port put the Container Operation Center into operation featuring an electronic port system and an automatic container system in an effort to reduce waiting times and costs for customers.
These encouraging results, hereby, marked a milestone for the Da Nang Port to become one of Viet Nam’s ten largest container ports , and seek a berth in the top five prestigious logistics units of the Vietnamese port operation industry.
In order to meet the increasing demand for handling container cargos, this year ‘s focus will be on upgrading the Tien Sa Port’s infrastructure system, and developing a 20ha inland container depot in Hoa Nhon Commune, Hoa Vang District.
The ships which make port calls there are operated by such globally renowned container shipping companies as Wanhai, Maersk Lines, Evergreen, MSC, SITC, and Yangming.
The Tien Sa Port now welcomes a combined total of 30 container ship arrivals every week.
This year, Da Nang Port has set its targets of handling 12.5 million tonnes of cargo, including 630,000 TEUs on container ships, earning over 1,000 billion VND in revenue and around 300 billion VND in profits.
